Albizia House

Albizia House – We were commissioned to design a contemporary family home on a one-acre site, situated at the end of a spur, in Simbithi Eco-Estate. The client’s brief called for a home with an overriding sense of simplicity but with a high degree of sophistication. All the living areas and bedroom suites face onto a panoramic vista, which includes a dense forest down-slope from the house. The palette of natural materials including timber screens, decking and cladding, off-shutter concrete and stone cladding juxtapose with the aggressive architectural form making, creating a home that is not only visually and spatially exciting, but also comfortable… Read more

SGNW House

SGNW House – The Design of SGNW House was significantly influenced by traditional Japanese architecture, and Fallingwater, Frank Lloyd Wright’s masterpiece, primarily with regard to interpenetration of exterior and interior spaces and the strong emphasis placed on harmony between man and nature. The general features of traditional Japanese architecture include, the roof being the most visually impressive component, often constituting half the size of the whole structure and including oversize eaves. The separation between inside and outside is itself in some measure not absolute as entire walls can be removed, opening the buildings… Read more

The Reserve House

The Reserve House – With the site facilitating a wide ocean frontage, the design was able to respond with a “Wingspread” type architecture that appears to float over the indigenous dune vegetation, taking full advantage of the panoramic beach and sea views. The Reserve house is a fusion of Tropical Modern Architecture with a number of bold Futurist elements, including a 4.3m high angled offshutter concrete wall that penetrates through the entrance hall, a splayed “T” shaped feature concrete column that supports a significant cantilevered top storey, and upswept cantilever pools that project out towards the ocean, which all combine to evoke the impression of movement… Read more

Aloe Ridge House

Aloe Ridge House – Under the leafy canopy of an immense Albizia Tree nestles Aloe Ridge House, a 300sqm contemporary home in the Eden Rock Estate on Kwa Zulu Natal’s South Coast of South Africa. A veritable ‘Mesian box’ of bold contemporary architectural design set into the African indigenous coastal forest context, Aloe Ridge House makes a big architectural statement despite its relatively diminutive dimensions, promoting the notion that a dream house needn’t be sprawling and palatial but that in fact, small can be beautiful… Read more

Salt Rock House

Salt Rock House – The house is a bold contemporary architectural design set into the picturesque coastal suburbia that is the Dolphin Coast, celebrating the year round warm coastal climate, local indigenous flora and fauna and magnificent 180° panoramic sea views where one might even be able to catch a glimpse of Humpback and Southern Right whales migrating along the coastline of KwaZulu-Natal from their southern feeding grounds to their breeding grounds off the coast of Mozambique… Read more
