Asante Traditional Buildings – Ghana

The Asante Traditional Buildings are a collection of 13 buildings from the time of the Ashanti Empire situated in ten different villages to the north and east of Kumasi in south-central Ghana: these are the last material remains of the great Asante civilization, which reached its golden age in the 18th century.

The buildings were traditionally regarded as the home of gods and men.The Asantee Traditional Buildings are a World Heritage Site since 1980.

The dwellings, made of earth, wood and straw, are vulnerable to the onslaught of time and weather: this buildings require constant maintenance.
