Airport Hotel – Description Courtesy of SBID.
The aim was to create a functional and welcoming environment including a number of public spaces: a porch, lobby, café, restaurant and ball room. By designing a space with enhanced circulation, guests will flow naturally between the different function areas. The project also aimed to create a hotel interior that respects sustainability and appeals to a newer, more eco-conscious generation.
With this in mind, the design focused on a cradle-to-cradle approach by implementing the three Rs: research, reuse and recycle. This approach was taken to sourcing raw materials as well as manufactured fixed and loose furniture, fabrics and even down to decorative objects such as vases. Implementing energy efficiency was also a factor. The final design embodies the design team’s belief in and adherence to the three Rs .
